Organizations Working Together to Beat the Odds for Local At-Risk Youth

The Prince William County Bar Foundation

The Prince William County Bar Foundation, Inc. (the Foundation) is a non-profit, 501(c) 3 corporation established in 2000 and organized and operated by local attorneys, members of the bench and community leaders for the purposes of funding law related education and service projects in the 31st Judicial Circuit. The Foundation provides the funding and administration for the Beat the Odds scholarships and awards given each year. The Foundation raises funds through the generous contributions from the Prince William County legal community, other non-profit, government, corporate, and private donors. Because the Foundation is operated solely by volunteers who donate their time and resources it has minimal overhead costs allowing nearly 99% of all funds raised to be used directly for the programs supported by the Foundation. The Prince William County Bar Association

The Prince William County Bar Association, Inc. (PWCBA) is a non-profit organization established in 1941. Membership in the PWCBA is open to law students, attorneys licensed in Virginia, and judges. The main objectives of the PWCBA are to maintain the honor and dignity of the profession of law, to promote the due administration of justice, and to foster mutual improvement and social interaction among its members. One of the ways the PWCBA accomplishes these objectives is by the implementation of law-related community service programs like the Beat the Odds Program.

The Juvenile Service Agencies of the 31st Judicial District

The 31st Judicial District consists of the County of Prince William, the City of Manassas, and the City of Manassas Park. The Court Services Unit, the At-Risk Youth & Family Services Unit, the Department of Social Services, the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Clerk's Office, and the Probation Departments from each of these jurisdictions work closely with the juveniles who come in contact with our juvenile justice system. Nominations for the Beat the Odds awards are made by representatives from these agencies who have first-hand knowledge about the unique circumstances, obstacles encountered, and progress made by juveniles after involvement with the juvenile justice system. These dedicated individuals work closely with the Bar Foundation and the Bar Association to bring this program to life.
