The Prince William County Beat the Odds® Program

A Scholarship and Educational Grant Program for At-Risk Youth Funded and Co-Administered by the Prince William County Bar Foundation, Inc.

Beat the Odds

For over 100 years, the juvenile justice system has intervened on behalf of the youth of our community to address issues of abuse, neglect, and acts of juvenile delinquency that are all too often accompanied by unending stories of family dysfunction and domestic chaos. Our 31st Judicial District launched the first Beat the Odds celebration in the Commonwealth of Virginia for the benefit of at-risk youth of our jurisdiction in fitting tribute to the 100th anniversary of juvenile justice. The Prince William County Bar Foundation, a non-profit, 501(c) 3 corporation, in partnership with the PWC Bar Association, adopted this program in 2001 to produce it annually for the benefit of at-risk youth in our county who have overcome the odds against their success.

According to Statistics Published by the Children's Defense Fund:

  • Every 8 seconds of the school day an American child drops out.
  • Every 26 seconds an American child runs away from home.
  • Every 13 seconds an American child is abused or neglected.
  • Every 8 minutes an American child is arrested for a violent crime.
  • Every 3 hours an American child is a homicide victim.
  • Every 5 hours an American child commits suicide.
  • Every 53 minutes in our rich land, an American child dies from poverty.

Some of these children live in Prince William County.
Every year some of these children beat the odds.
Join us in supporting and celebrating their success.

The 2012 BTO Celebration and Awards Banquet is scheduled for May 31, 2012!
